Burger King recently released their plant-based burger so, we decided to order it online. They don’t have their own delivery service here in our province but good thing there is an available 3rd party delivery service called Angkas sa Lucena Delivery Services. Unfortunately, it was not available at that time so, we ended up ordering the usual Whopper Jr.
Luckily, I was able to buy their plant-based burger when I went to the mall. Yey!
Burger King’s plant-based whopper is made with soy protein but it isn’t considered vegan since it still contains mayonnaise. They didn’t actually claim that it’s vegan-friendly but their ad created confusion which was later on addressed by the fast-food giant. They also clarified that the patties are cooked on the same grill as their regular patties but was not cooked at the same time. Aside from that, customers can request to remove the mayonnaise if they wanted to have a vegan burger.
The burger I had was toasted. I actually like my patties cooked that way so I was a bit happy at first. The meat texture was there and I felt like I was really eating beef but it was bland. I can’t taste the patty. LOL. I can only taste the aftertaste of the overcooked meat, something in between smokey and burnt. I was expecting that the taste would be somehow similar to their regular Whopper Jr. because of the #DontTasteTheDifference. Maybe, adding more ketchup would make this better. Overall, I’m sorry but I did “taste the difference”.
Anyway, this burger is packed with about 290 calories compared with their regular Whopper Jr. which contains 314 calories based on their website. Actually, this plant-based patty is not healthier per se. If you are aiming to lessen your caloric intake, this won’t actually help you, it’s still a burger. But if you want to go meatless or at least lessen your consumption of red meat, this one is for you.

Well, I like BK’s Whopper Jr. so, I would still prefer eating that rather than their plant-based Whopper but it was indeed a good move to help us lessen our meat intake.
