Black Sugae Tea

Black Sugar Tea

There’s a lot of cafes all over Manila and what I love about Black Sugar (aside from its snacks and drinks) was the modern, chic, and stylish interior. Not to mention that even their restroom was lit.

Black Sugar is a franchise from Taiwan and it was the first time that it was brought here in the Philippines. They have a wide array of drink selections from the Black Sugar Series, Charcoal Series, Fruit Tea, Fresh Fruit Shakes, Fruity Bubble Soda, Milk Tea Series, and Lava Hot Drinks. Aside from their drinks, they also serve light snacks which go well with any drink you choose. They have Egg Waffles, Chicken Pie, Chicken Pops, Chicken Neck (yes, even this one), Chicken Skin, Plum Sweet Potatoes, Fries, Fish Tofu, and a lot more. See, they are more than just a milk tea shop. And to be honest, their menu was a bit overwhelming (the good kind of overwhelming since I wanted to try them all, all at once).

So, here we go…

For the snacks, we tried the Fries in bbq and cheese flavor, and the fish tofu since this was something new for us.

Fries – the fries were good but nothing extraordinary except for its chic plate.

Fish Tofu – well, I love tofu but I haven’t tried fish tofu yet and I didn’t expect it to be this good! You can smell the strong aroma of spices used which I love, and it tastes like fishballs (sosyal version). Would definitely order this again when I come back. This was really good but quite expensive.

Jasmine Green Tea – being a lover of hot tea, I tried Black Sugar’s Jasmine Green Tea. I did not expect anything but oh boy, this one is very soothing! Perfectly steeped, and freshly made. I also love the fact that they have a lot of options when it comes to hot tea.

Black Dew Charcoal Macchiato – I didn’t quite like this one since it was a bit lacking in terms of flavor for me. Tried this drink because of the benefits I can get from the activated charcoal which mainly, helps our body detoxify.

Layered Black Tea Macchiato – this drink was really good. I love the balance in its flavor plus it was not too sweet! Yay!

Aside from its chic and posh ambiance, and wide food and drink selection, I also love the fact that they don’t use artificial sweetener and uses high-quality sugar canes. Perfect for my tea-ta time in the afternoon or after dinner.

Its location was not friendly to commuters since it is located in West McKinley but there’s a lot of offices in the area. I think going during the weekend was a good idea since I can enjoy its ambiance without being distracted by a lot of people. Lucky me, that I just live near the area.

If you’re a tea-ta like me, you would definitely enjoy their lava hot drinks. And, if you are hungry (like me again), you can enjoy your snacks all the same!
