One of my guilty pleasures when traveling abroad is saving on food stash to munch on while staying in the hotel that can, later on, become a pasalubong if not consumed.
One of my favorite destinations is 7/11. Though prices can be more expensive here, I believe it is one of the best places to find local, foreign, and unique food staples. Also, it is convenient that it is open 24/7.
After having breakfast at One Sentral Restaurant we immediately went to 7/11 to buy our food stash. The convenient store that we went to was a bit small so, there were only a few items that we’ve found.
Being an ice cream lover, the first thing I saw was their chest freezer loaded with ice cream. I saw different ice cream brands but some are available in the Philippines. This is also where I was first able to try the now-famous, UniCornetto.
Note: Some of the food items can be found here in the Philippines.
1. Wall’s Lipton Crush
The only interesting ice cream I saw was this frozen tea in a “freezie tube”. I love tea so, I decided to try it and it actually does taste like the real deal, just frozen.
After searching through their freezer, we went to the chips aisle.
2. Wise Cottage Fries by BJC Foods
Thinly sliced potato chips with sea salt & peppercorn produce real goodness!
I can’t wait to try the other flavors!
Most of the time, I skip the chips’ aisle but I guess I will be searching for this one now.
3. Roller Coaster
I got this just because its packaging is different and thought that it would also taste different.
True enough, it does taste different. The potato rings were thicker and taste more potato-ish. It actually tastes closer to potatoes with a richer cheese flavor which is good but I still prefer the thinner pieces of potato rings we have here in the Philippines.
4. Chiz King
Another Jack n’ Jill creation in Malaysia.
At first, I don’t want to pick this up since I thought it would be similar to our Chiz Curls. Well, it actually is similar except that this one tastes better.
Another favorite that I can’t stop munching on!
5. Lay’s Grilled Prawn and Seafood Sauce Flavor
Well, I love Lay’s. It is my first time seeing two flavors in one pack so, I got curious and decided to try it even though the flavor doesn’t look that appetizing.
So, yeah, it is still the Lay’s we know. Crunchy but with thicker slices of potato chips than usual, which is not a bad thing since it matches well with the flavor.
Flavorwise, it does taste like grilled prawns with a bit of bbq flavor. The seafood sauce does also taste like one but I don’t personally like it since it tastes a bit fishy. I wasn’t able to finish the whole pack since I don’t like its strong and bold flavors. But, kuddos to them for mimicking those flavors accurately.
And after searching through the chips section, we went for chocolates next. We saw the KitKat Duo Milk Tea and immediately grabbed one. Aside from that, we also saw this Cloud 9.
6. Cloud 9 Crispies
I haven’t seen this one here in the Philippines so, I grabbed not one but two and regretted it after opening one.
It was too sweet for me and the rice crispies didn’t do any good either.
We didn’t see many unique chocolates there so, we hoarded drinks next.
7. Kurma Fresh Milk
Fresh milk made with palm dates. The milk has no added sugar since palm dates are naturally sweet which made this drink tastes really good.
Definitely a must-try!
8. Yakult Ace
This one is Yakult’s product for the Malaysian market. It says that this is the premium version of the standard Yakult cultured milk drink since it has more nutrients and probiotics strains.
For the taste, it actually tastes similar. We all thought it would taste a bit different though.
And yes, we hoarded more drinks. There’s a lot of F&N products here but we only tried a few.
9. F&N Products
We tried the F&N Cool Ice Cream Soda. It tastes like cream soda but with a milder taste and vanilla scent. Though this one tastes good, I won’t buy it again since I prefer Ben Shaws Cream Soda.
We also tried their Sarsi and it tastes almost identical to the root beers I have tried here in the Philippines which is a good thing.
For the record, I am not a big fan of ginger ale but my friend insisted that we try this out. It has that sweet, and gingery taste which my friend said was good but not the best one she had tried.
10. Pokka Drinks
I know this one is also available here in the Philippines but this is the first time that I have tried it.
Both drinks, the Peach Oolong Tea and the Chrysanthemum White Tea are actually refreshing and not too sweet. It also gave justice to the oolong tea and peach juice combination as well as with the chrysanthemum.
This is not one of the best-bottled tea drinks that I have tried but it was good.
Overall, my favorites in our 7/11 food stash were the Wise Cottage Fries, Chiz King, and Kurma Fresh Milk.
