I was looking for different ways to cook eggs and decided to look for Gordon Ramsay’s version. So, I stumbled upon his videos making it and another video where he is instructing Jimmy Kimmel on how to cook it in Jimmy Kimmel Live!
The whole video was so funny with Jimmy looking rattled while cooking. Anyway, I have decided to make my own Gordon Ramsay’s Scrambled Eggs and see for myself if I can do it and if it really does taste good.
The procedures look a bit complicated for a scrambled egg but is it really worth trying?
The ingredients he used were:
- 6 cold eggs
- 15g butter
- Salt and pepper
- Crème fraîche
- Chives
Cooking Instructions:
- Crack 6 cold eggs into a deep saucepan.
- Add the butter. For smaller batches, use a 2-to-1 eggs-to-butter ratio.
- Put the pan on high heat.
- Stir continuously with a rubber spatula—don’t whisk—making sure to scrape the bottom of the pan.
- After 30 seconds, take the pan off the heat. Keep stirring. After about 10 seconds, put back on the heat. Repeat for 3 minutes.
- In the last minute, season the eggs lightly. For extra creamy texture, stir in 1 tsp of crème fraîche.
- Plate and garnish with chopped chives.
Here’s what I used:
- 3 cold eggs
- 10g butter
- Salt and pepper
- DIY Crème Fraîche
I followed the instructions as mentioned above but made my own crème fraîche since I can’t buy one in the local grocery during the Enhanced Community Quarantine. I searched online and found ways on how to make my own substitute.
Since I don’t have a reference on how it tastes like I just followed the instructions online using milk, butter, cornstarch, and vinegar. I made my own heavy cream and buttermilk using the following measures:
Heavy Cream – 1/4 cup melted butter, 3/4 cup, and 1 tbsp flour
Buttermilk – 1 tsp white vinegar and 1 cup milk
It was indeed creamy and fluffy but I still have to work on how to make a delicious crème fraîche. Also, at first, it can be a bit complicated to make but once you get the hang of it, it would already be an easy peasy.
It actually took me 3 tries before I perfected its fluffy, and creamy texture. I also tried using margarine since we run out of butter the last time, and it tasted good as well.
Gordon Ramsay’s scrambled eggs are paired with sourdough toast with cooked cherry tomatoes and mushrooms and garnished with chives. One time, I tried pairing it with white bread and cooked tomatoes since it is what’s available in our house.
I know it is incomparable with the original version but since some of the ingredients cannot be easily found in the supermarket, I have decided to make my own, Pinoy style.
And for my 3rd try, instead of pairing it with bread, I have decided to go Pinoy-style all the way by pairing it with fried rice, tapa, tomatoes, and salted eggs! Best paired with coffee, of course!
